    Grab a spot on our new citizen journalism course

    The second Grocott’s Mail course in citizen journalism begins on 19 October, and this time it’s open to anyone in Grahamstown.

    The second Grocott’s Mail course in citizen journalism begins on 19 October, and this time it’s open to anyone in Grahamstown.

    The first course was for 40 school learners, who excelled and published profiles and stories – with photos taken on their cellphones – on Grocott’s Mail Online in the MyStory section.

    The course, which is free of charge and takes place in the newly-launched Grocott’s Mail Citizen Journalism Newsroom, spans six weeks (one 90-minute session per week) and covers basic computer literacy including word processing, internet usage including email and research, photography and basic photo editing, the principles of responsible journalism and how to bring this all together to become an effective citizen journalist.

    If you’re the type of person who takes interest in what’s happening around you and you love telling stories, this course is for you. You can use the skills you’ll learn to tell Grahamstown about the interesting people and happenings in your community or in your organisation.

    Four groups of 10 participants each will complete the course over the six-week period. Unfortunately we can’t accommodate more than 40 participants on this course, so if you would like to secure a place, please go to www.grocotts.co.za/CJ to fill in a brief application form and provide us with a motivation as to why you should be given a place on the course. Printed forms are also available at the Grocott’s Mail office at 40 High Street.
