THE eternal magic of the circus is in town and this time both children and adults are ensured of a fun time. McLaren circus, although small in size, brings with it all the excitement and novelty of a traditional travelling circus.

THE eternal magic of the circus is in town and this time both children and adults are ensured of a fun time. McLaren circus, although small in size, brings with it all the excitement and novelty of a traditional travelling circus.

From performing poodles to acrobats, contortionists and balancing acts, the show presents a variety of acts to thrill the audience and enchant the children. A sure highlight is Mademoiselle Francisca, who captivated the audience with balancing and juggling acts and surprised everyone with her tangle of snakes. Although the snakes do not really perform, their appearance in the ring certainly caused a commotion.

Jade the contortionist and James the acrobat are also splendid. James’ fire acts created tension in the audience as he jumped through a circle of flame and shimmied underneath a burning pole. Jade’s contortionism, in turn, had the audience marvelling at his precise movements and ability to bend in all manner of shapes.

The clowns, Chakalaka and Tieki, amused everyone with their tricks and games, incorporating members of the audience in some of their acts. Chakalaka’s game with children and Tieki’s concert with the adults provided a very enjoyable and amusing time for everyone.

The animal performances, in turn, were also very entertaining, especially the poodles act. Three poodles performed a variety of tricks, from jumping over each other to sliding down a pint sized slide. A miniature goat also jumped over hoops and poles.

On the whole the show was entertaining and engaging. Although the acts are a short in duration, and some are not as interesting, the enthusiasm and energy of the artists makes up for it, providing a fun time for the whole family.
