GRAHAMSTOWN High Court Judge Eric Leach has dismissed an urgent application by ex-municipal manager, Pravine Naidoo to reclaim his post. Naidoo must now leave his R850 000-a-year-job, the house reserved for the municipal manager and his exclusive parking bay. For six years Naidoo was allowed to park in a reserved bay outside City Hall. But a few hours after he parked there on November 1, he was served with a letter from Makana mayor Phumelelo Kate telling him that his contract had expired. When the municipal manager’s post was advertised earlier this year Naidoo had sent in his CV.

He is now one of five candidates who have been shortlisted for the position. Naidoo’s interview for the job took place at 8.30am on Thursday. He drove past the “reserved for municipal manager” parking spot, but there was another car there, and, unfortunately for Naidoo, there was no bay reserved for “recently-ousted municipal manager”. He parked across the road. Naidoo was grilled by the mayor and the team appointed to select a new municipal manager.
