In a most unusual sex crime, a Joza woman has claimed she was raped by another woman.

In a most unusual sex crime, a Joza woman has claimed she was raped by another woman.

The 62-year-old complainant laid a charge of indecent assault against a 50-year old woman, whom she claims assaulted her last month.

Lisa Vetten, programme manager at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation based in Johannesburg, described the case as “very uncommon”. “It’s rare for a woman to rape a woman. Normally t’s a man raping a woman,” Vetten explained yesterday.

The police confirmed yesterday that they were investigating charges of indecent assault, but no arrests had been made.

A legal expert in Grahamstown said there was no definition of woman-to-woman rape in South Africa nd it would be treated as an indecent assault case.

“It can’t be rape, because there was no penetration,” said the lawyer who did not want to be named.
